Skar terbentuk akibat kerusakan jaringan sebagai bagian dari proses penyembuhan luka secara alami. Skar sering dimanifestasikan sebagai gangguan penyembuhan luka atau pembentukan bekas luka yang meliputi skar atrofi, hipertrofi, dan keloid. Penatalaksanaan skar masih merupakan tantangan hingga saat ini. Intervensi dini dan perawatan skar sangat penting untuk mengontrol perkembangan skar sehingga mengurangi insiden morbiditas dan masalah psikologis pada penderita. Stem cell memiliki sifat self-renewal, dapat berdiferensiasi, dan memperbanyak diri menjadi berbagai jenis sel. Secretome yang disekresikan oleh mesenchymal stem cells memiliki berbagai manfaat pada kulit sebagai agen terapeutik untuk penyakit regeneratif. Secretome stem cells dapat meningkatkan penyembuhan luka dengan mempercepat penutupan luka, meningkatkan reepitelisasi, meningkatkan angiogenesis, memodulasi peradangan, dan mengatur renovasi matriks ekstraseluler. Secretome stem cells menunjukkan efek pada penyembuhan luka dan regenerasi kulit dalam penanganan skar atrofi, hipertrofi, dan keloid. Penelitian lebih lanjut masih diperlukan untuk memastikan keamanan dan efikasi terapi stem cell dan secretome sebagai pilihan tatalaksana skar di masa depan.
